Okay, thoughts on Saturday

I have to say it, I can't help it: I was right. I knew this was gonna be a close, hard-fought battle. I knew because teams like Arkansas don't just get embarrassed 70-17 one week and not come out fighting the next. All these so-called "experts" and sportswriters were predicting 37-10, 34-7 blowouts. No way. I knew it was gonna be close. The good news is we held them off and won 24-13. The bad news is we could just as easily have gotten beat. The offense didn't play very well most of the game and the defense struggled against their run game at times. The surprise good news was the special teams, which included a school record 72 yard punt by Jeremy Schatz. 72 yards! Quite unbelivable. To the D's credit though, they won us the game. Even though they gave up lots of rushing yards, including a 70 yard TD scamper, they shut the Hogs down when they had to. The turning point in the game came after Arkansas blocked a punt in the 4th quarter and set up shop on the Bama 9. The D took charge and held them to a field goal when a TD would have tied the game. This woke the offense up and they proceeded to march downfield two possessions later and score the game clinching touchdown on kind of a funny play. Nobody covered DJ Hall! Brodie found him literally by himself in the end zone. We may have pulled it out this week, but we have to play better if we want to beat Florida next Saturday. Their offense is the exact opposite of Arkansas'; it's a West Coast-style, air it out offense. The secondary needs to play up to its potential and the front seven must get pressure on Chris Leak. Offensively, we have to establish the run in order to open up the downfield passing game. Schatz needs to punt like he did this game and Christensen, the kicker, needs to play better. Florida will mark the fifth straight team we have played with a new defensive coordinator, which makes it tough for Dave Rader to plan his offense. It's worked out fine so far though. We're 4-0 overall, 2-0 in the SEC and ranked #15 in the AP poll and #16 in the USA Today poll. The Gators are top five, so a win would be huge. RTR and let's kick some Gator tail!
